Administrative Job Functions:
1. Supervise and guide the development of curriculum changes in the Surgical Technology program.
2. Review, evaluate, and revise program curricula and practices to assure compliance with professional standards, state-mandated guidelines, and requirements of business/industry, and higher education.
3. Initiate and participate in the selection and orientation of new Surgical Technology instructors.
4. Counsel prospective applicants as they seek specific information about the program.
5. Provide advice and/or assistance to students regarding instructional or program specific issues.
6. Prepare class schedules and surgical technology teaching assignments.
7. Keep abreast of new instructional ideas, materials and equipment, and bring these to the attention of the teaching staff.
8. Conduct an annual review of instructional success and coursework; participate with teaching staff in the selection of textbooks.
9. Oversee and facilitate the Surgical Technology Advisory Committee that meets at least once a year.
10. Serve as liaison between the Surgical Technology program and external organizations that have an interest in education and other areas of the organization.
11. Represent the program at professional meetings.
12. Provide instructional staff with student rosters for attendance tracking.
13. Participate in workshops and meetings that will contribute to an improvement in instruction, curriculum, continuing education and professional growth.
14. Maintain program accreditation by adhering to the standards of the Surgical Technology accreditation agencies; function as a liaison with the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA).
15. Prepare annual report to ARC/STSA.
16. Manage and maintain internal data base.
17. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Instructional Job Functions:

1. Teach Surgical Technology courses at a variety of times and locations.
2. Demonstrate skill and knowledge in teaching disciplines/methodologies and professional development activities.
3. Evaluate students using a variety of methods to measure progress toward achievement of course objectives and keep them informed of their progress.
4. Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
5. Become familiar with and adhere to all policies and procedures of the organization.
6. Actively participate in organization-related activities such as hiring committees, student activities, special programs, recruitment, registration, advising, and community education.
7. Submit required reports, paperwork and forms in a timely manner.

1. Current status as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)*
2. Three (3) years of operating room experience in the scrub role within the last five years and/or three years of current experience as an instructor in Surgical Technology within the last five years.
Associate's degree or higher in nursing or a related health field.
4. Must be knowledgeable and experienced in the ARC/STSA standards, reporting and accreditation process.
5. Proficient computer skills including MS Word 2010, MS Excel 2010, as well as with ExamView and other computer-based learning tools.

7. Excellent oral/written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
8. Ability to collaborate with others in the achievement of departmental goals and the mission of the organization.

* The Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) or the combined CST/CSFA is an acceptable credential in lieu of CST Certification.
