About the Job

The Lang School seeks one full-time paraprofessional to join our collaborative team to work 1:1 with a rising second-grader.

The Lang School is an independent, progressive K-12 school in lower Manhattan for gifted and twice-exceptional/2e learners (gifted students with mild to moderate learning disabilities or social-emotional difficulties). Gifted and 2e learners present challenges requiring myriad strategies and interventions in order to maximize their opportunities for academic, social/emotional and behavioral success. Members of our working community feel a genuine connection with our mission and population, and they see themselves learning and developing with our innovative, growth mindset oriented model.

Strong candidates will need to have completed, or be close to completing, an undergraduate (or graduate degree) in psychology, social work or special education, as well as have training and experience working with special needs students. Experience with data collection, behavior plans, positive behavior systems is a plus. The school will provide professional development (including CPI & PBS) plus ongoing 1:1 doctoral-level school psychologist support.

Note: this is not a classroom assistant or teacher's assistant position. Paraprofessionals at The Lang School work 1:1 with one student throughout the school year and focus all their efforts, under supervision, on maximizing that student's growth towards independence in the context of the classroom.
