About the Job

Job Summary

The Lang School is an alternative school located in Lower Manhattan for students grades 1-12 located. Our students are high-ability, gifted, and twice exceptional learners (“2e” refers to gifted students who also have LDs.)

We are looking for a paraprofessional to work 1:1 with a 1st grade student who presents with social learning and self-regulation challenges. The right person will have university-level training in the field of child psychology and experience working with special needs children in formal settings, as well as training/experience with the implementation of behavior plans. The candidate will present with a confident, friendly demeanor. Flexible thinking and a commitment to reflect collaboratively with a doctoral-level supervisor are essential. The position begins as a 3-week, part-time position from December 4th to December 22nd, Monday through Friday during the morning hours of 8:15 to 11:45. We are hoping to continue as a long-term, full-time position beginning January 2nd. The hours for this position would be 8:15am to 3:45pm, Monday through Friday.

We are looking to fill a mid-year vacancy:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in special education or psychology

  • Experience working with students in special education settings

  • Commitment to Positive Behavioral Supports (PBS)

  • Competence and confidence in implementing student behavior plans and academic support

  • Ability to consistently display supportive rapport in stressful situations

  • CPI or restraint training a plus
