Description

Artspace, the leading online destination for contemporary art, is looking for a smart, motivated, and resourceful editorial intern, starting immediately.

Applicants are expected to be able to clearly express their ideas in writing, and to have some knowledge of art history and/or contemporary art.

During the editorial internship, interns are encouraged to pitch stories to the editor-in-chief, and most interns leave having written and published several features or interviews. This is an amazing opportunity for students or recent graduates who are looking for hands-on experience in web publishing and art journalism, and for writers looking to publish their work and expand their audience.

Interns will gain experience in all aspects of web publishing including: attending all editorial meetings to brainstorm and pitch stories, delegate writing assignments, and discuss topics relevant to contemporary art; write original articles to be published in the magazine; research and excerpt books published by Phaidon (Artspace's sister company); transcribe interviews; help write marketing copy about certain artists and artworks; learn about traffic-measuring metrics and SEO; learn how to layout and publish articles and use basic html.

This position calls for at least two days a week in the Artspace office in Manhattan. Interns will learn about contemporary art history, the art e-commerce space, web publishing, and many other facets of the site's multifarious operations.

The internship is unpaid but can offer school credit if applicable.
