Carnegie Corporation of New York has an exciting opportunity for an exceptional writer to work directly with the President to be the voice of the President and to be a part of the collaborative team of the Office of the President; assisting with grant making and event planning. The ideal candidate is someone who is proactive, has high initiative, energetic, very well organized, humble, patient, flexible, and works well in a fast-paced team setting. The Coordinator of Correspondence and Special Projects will report to the President, and Chief of Staff of the Presidents Office, and will be responsible for the following: Correspondence/Writing (40-50%) - Frequent meetings with the President to review all incoming correspondence; both written and electronic, and draft and edit responses to all. Assist with communications between the President and trustees, staff, grantees, potential grantees, government officials and other external groups. The President will often dictate responses, and is very hands on about his communications. Respond to various external inquiries on the Presidents behalf. Copy edit the writing of the president, conduct research for meetings, and draft talking points for the President. Some speech writing, and drafting quarterly letters to the Board of Trustees. Grants Management (20%) Assist the Chief of Staff with the Presidents discretionary grant making. This includes working directly with grantees, drafting grant proposals, completing budgets, working with the Grants Management Office to ensure grant making compliance, and updating grants information into grants management database (FLUXX). Event Planning/Special Projects (30%) Work with the team of the Office of the President to execute the many special events hosted by the President. Responsibilities include project planning, vendor management, being present at events to meet and greet and socialize with guests (sometimes after normal business hours). Qualifications for the position: Undergraduate degree in and strong academic record. Superb writing skills, and the ability to write quickly, and under tight deadlines. Excellent copy editing and communication skills. Savvy user of technology, and willingness and ability to learn new software platforms. Customer service mentality. Prior experience working directly for the president of an organization or executive level management, or in a position responsible for a high volume of writing and/or editing. Flexibility with work schedule as position may require work after normal business hours and weekends. Knowledge of a second or multiple languages and familiarity with Carnegie Corporations program areas is helpful. Application requirements: Respond with a cover letter, resume, and writing sample.
