Roosevelt Island Day Nursery (RIDN) is an early childhood school for children ages 3 months to 5 years and was founded in 1975. Currently, the school is housed in two sites on Roosevelt Island and has an enrollment capacity of 100 children. At RIDN, each child’s emotional, physical, creative and cognitive development is supported and nurtured through play and challenging projects, social interaction, and community activities.
RIDN’s Board of Trustees seeks a professional early childhood educator with proven management skills to oversee the general administration and operation of the school. The Director reports to and works closely with the Board of Trustees and is responsible for the effective operation of the school.
The successful candidate will have at least 3 years of experience as a leader in an early childhood site. Candidate must demonstrate exceptional knowledge of child development (from infancy through age 5) and classroom pedagogy in a multicultural setting. In addition, the candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, organization and management capabilities, as well as a working understanding of the fiscal and legal responsibilities of leading a not-for-profit school. The candidate will have a proven record of recruiting, developing and retaining outstanding and dedicated teachers and staff. Experience in community partnerships, fundraising and interfacing with NYC Dept. of Education preferred.
Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education required; EdD or PhD ideal.
