Ethical Culture Fieldston School is a progressive pre K:12 independent school serving students from throughout New York City and the surrounding suburbs. Committed to academic excellence, ethical learning, and progressive education, ECF offers a rich and challenging curriculum in the arts, sciences, and humanities. A coed, nonsectarian school, it serves a diverse community of about 1,700 students from PreK to 12 on two campuses :: one in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, and the other in Manhattan. The middle school, located in the Bronx, is comprised of approximately 400 students and 55 faculty members. This is a 10 month administrative position starting September through June. The Diversity and Social Studies Coordinator serves as a leader in promoting and developing the schoolA?s capacity to create and sustain an inclusive community. The Coordinator is charged with working on a divisional and an all school level to oversee the development of social and academic programs designed to support all constituents. This position works with a team of practitioners across the four divisions and reports to the Director of Progressive and Multicultural Education and to the Ethical Culture Principal. Responsibilities include: Support Services Monitor and support curricular priorities as they pertain to diversity, equity and multicultural educationAttend student academic and social support meetingsLead staff professional development on issues of anti:bias educationLead diversity committee meetings on topics of interestMonitor and enhance the support mechanisms in place for underrepresented student groupsParticipate in the admissions process as needed. Attend and represent the division at admissions open houses and accepted student/family receptionsParticipate as a member of the divisional leadership team and consult as needed on issuesConduct and stay abreast of research as it pertains to student and staff participation and attrition and success ratesSupport divisional hiring process, serve as a member of search committeesRegularly meet with ethics teachers and counselors to create and enhance support systems to promote the socio:emotional learning/growth of childrenConstituent Relations Serve as a liaison and provide informal counseling to students, families, and staffServe as a resource for students, families, faculty and staffOversee diversity related organizations including faculty groups and student affinity groupsCoordinate all aspects of the Conversations About Race and Ethics/Empathy program for 4th and 5th graders. Work with the Ethics teacher to coordinate all aspects of the Conversations About Identity program for 3rd gradersAttend Parent Multicultural P and T meetings and monitor goal setting, programming, and other topics of interestPartner with colleagues to plan and support community time assemblies, trips and retreats to enhance community understandingAttend and chaperone important events in the life of the division and wider communityTeach independent and collaborative lessons about diversity, equity, and inclusion as neededSocial Studies Coordinator Role Oversee alignment of social studies curriculum horizontally and vertically Prek:5th Grade and in conjunction with Middle and High School. Build out a continuum of grade appropriate, differentiated resources that enhance the curriculum.Facilitate meaningful links between classroom teachersA? and specialist teachersA? curriculum through social studies workWork with classroom teachers to examine and enrich social studies curriculum through diversity lensSupport teachers in enriching social studies curriculum though diversity:related programming and materials.Support grade:level teams in refinement of diversity:inclusive social studies curriculumAdministrative Attend regular meetings and maintain contact with the diversity coordinators in other divisionsMaintain a divisional calendar of events and monitor all school programming in order to minimize conflictsPrepare announcement
