Job Description
The Center for Health Equity will align efforts in advancing health equity across the City and ensure that we deploy resources to reduce health and mental hygiene disparities across all neighborhoods in NYC. The Center will work in collaboration with community-based partners, building on work the District Public Health Offices and others have pursued over the years. The Center will focus on these key areas: leveraging community assets to better integrate primary care and public health to serve the health needs of communities; building inter-agency collaboration to implement multi-sectorial approach to addressing the root causes of health disparities; and increasing organizational capacity that strengthens the agency's lens of addressing health equity.
* Work closely with community partners and schools to assess health needs.
* Plan and coordinate use of health data appropriate to the needs of the community partners.
* Conduct presentations and technical trainings for community partners to build organizational capacity to access, understand and use health tools.
* Engage community partners and provide them with data and other resources for improving their community's health.
* Present and report public health data and research findings to community partners to inform policy initiatives and programming.
* Represent the department in the community at meetings, events, etc..
* Prepare summary tables, figures, maps and draft reports to present findings to public community partners.
* Support programmatic activities around healthy eating and active living.
* Administer surveys, conduct pre- and post-tests or employ other tools to gather feedback from community partners about presentations and other activities.
* Perform other tasks based on the community partners need, including presentation requests.
Minimum Qual Requirements
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to \"1\" or \"2\" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in \"1\" above.
Preferred Skills
* Master's degree 1 year of full time satisfactory experience or Baccalaureate degree and 3 years of full time satisfactory experience
* Experience using Microsoft Excel, Access and Power Point
* Keen ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments
* Ability to work closely with all levels of staff inside and outside the Agency
* Ability to work independently and exercise a high degree of initiative to accomplish tasks and solve problems
* Experience conducting trainings and presentations
* Experience working with community-based organizations
* Fluent in Spanish.
