Ethical Culture Fieldston is a progressive preK:12 independent school that has been serving students from throughout New York City and the surrounding suburbs since 1878. ECF offers a rich curriculum in the arts, sciences, and humanities. A co:ed, nonsectarian school, it serves a diverse community of about 1,700 students on two campuses :: one in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, and the other in Manhattan. Ethical Culture School, located on the Upper West Side at 63rd Street and Central Park West, is comprised of approximately 450 students Pre:K through 5th Grade and 80 faculty members.The learning specialist is a member of the Language and Learning Team, which supports the work of the classroom teachers by helping students who experience difficulties in reading, writing, organization and executive functioning. The learning specialist works with small groups of students who have been identified as having difficulties. They remediate skills in small group settings. They function as a resource to classroom and specialist teachers by providing consultation about students, materials, and teaching strategies. They contribute to curriculum development and modifications with a focus on student supports. They also perform both formal and informal assessments in order to monitor student progress and inform individual educational goals. The learning specialist attends team, grade level and administrative meetings to discuss student issues and progress. They participate in meetings with the parents of children who may be experiencing difficulties and will facilitate coordination between the school, family and outside service providers. MasterA?s degree in Reading, Special Education, or related fieldA minimum of three to four yearsA? experience with reading instruction/remediationFormal training in the Wilson Reading System and experience utilizing it with studentsExperience with learning differences and differentiated curriculum Candidates should be well versed in progressive pedagogical approaches and comfortable working in collaborative environments with a highly talented and experienced faculty.
