The Museum of the City of New York celebrates and interprets the city, educating the public about its distinctive character, especially its heritage of diversity, opportunity, and perpetual transformation. The Museum is riding an exciting wave of success and is in the midst of a revitalization of its mission and operations, which centers on the renovation and expansion of its historic building, the advancement of the stewardship of its collections, and new and ambitious exhibitions, publications, and public and school programs.

The Museum seeks a STEM Fashion Camp Educator to join the Frederick A.O. Schwarz Education Center. The ideal candidate should be energetic and organized and must possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to be flexible in a teaching environment. She or he will have experience working with school-age children in a cultural institution and a background in sewing and fashion design.

Roles and Responsibilities: Sample
• Co-teach, 5-session day camp for students entering 4th – 6th grades, including learning the related content, teaching in classroom and gallery settings, leading field trips around New York City, and maintaining a safe and positive learning environment throughout the week
• Prepare and update lesson power points, as needed
• Set up all design materials and related equipment before and clean up after each day
• Maintain all equipment: fabric, scissors, sewing kits, etc.
• Collaborate with co-teacher, camp coordinator, and students to curate and organize final fashion show of student work
• Other duties as assigned

• BFA in design, fashion design, or related field. Only individuals with previous teaching experience and technical design skills should apply
• Excellent communication skills and enthusiasm for working with school children
• Self-motivation and excellent organizational skills
• Willingness to assist with a range of tasks and to work collaboratively

Mandatory Requirements:
• Available to co-teach the class Monday to Friday, August 7 – 11, 8am – 4pm, daily
• Available at least one onsite meeting prior to August 5

Pay: $25/hr, dependent on experience and education level
